THE PROBLEM

With cannabis illegal at the national level, each individual state is responsible for establishing their own laws. As a result, cannabis marketers are forced to navigate a patchwork of varying regulatory complexities, most of which require frequent updates of packaging materials. With nearly 6,000 variations of SKUs, product forms and flavors across 12 states and 3 testing facilities, The Botanist needed a scalable and dependable solution to address their packaging challenges and ensure 100% compliance.

THE SOLUTION

DATA CAPTURE

Recognizing that data is being supplied by multiple sources at multiple times, we developed and managed a SKU-based data portal where stakeholders uploaded a common standard of information. The portal then automatically extracted only the data needed to meet the regulations of each state, then structured and tagged it for automated artwork assembly.

AUTOMATED ARTWORK ASSEMBLY

All necessary packaging changes seamlessly flowed into predetermined packaging templates and final color-corrected printer files were generated, turning a process that could take hours into mere minutes.

QUALITY ASSURANCE

The data was never touched by the client or agency teams, completely removing the chance for human error from the packaging production stage. This guaranteed that what was uploaded by the various testing facilities exactly matched what was printed on the packaging.
